Is human activity causing the Australian bushfires of 2019/20?

There has been significant interest in the bushfire season globally. Bushfires are a tragedy, particularly with destruction, and in this case, many deaths. The hyperbole about this years’ bushfires is unfortunately somewhat overwhelming, with cries of ‘Climate Change!’

This year’s fires are not unprecedented. As of mid-January, it’s a bad year, and about the forth worst ever. Dr Roy Spencer (UAH) has provided a useful overview of the facts associated with current year, and it’s well worth reading his review.
